Scale and polish is a 20 minute clean to remove tough stains and tartar build up that cannot be removed by regular brushing.
Tartar build-up can have greater complications in the future if allowed to go on for too long, so we’d recommended booking in for a scale and polish 4 times a year to reduce the risk of gum disease and avoid problems and more expensive restorative treatments further down the line.
First your dentist will carry out a full dental examination which could include x-rays to assess the overall health of your mouth. Once you pass the dental examination your dentist will then explain the cleaning process.
Next, your dentist will use an ultrasound scraper to get rid of any plaque and tartar build up and any stubborn stains.
The final step is the polish. This is where your dentist will polish the surface of your teeth to remove any remaining staining. This is painless and usually takes 20 minutes.
