ABOUT SEDATION DENTISTRY
Calm, Comfortable and Safe Dental Care with IV Sedation
If you feel anxious or nervous about dental treatment, IV sedation is a trusted and effective way to help you relax. At Smart Dental Care, we provide sedation in a safe, clinical setting — administered by trained medical professionals with your comfort as our top priority.
During your initial £50 consultation, we’ll assess your health, review your medical history and check your blood pressure and oxygen levels to ensure sedation is suitable for you. Treatment thereafter is charged at £300 per hour.
IV sedation involves administering a calming medication — usually Midazolam or Propofol — directly into a vein in your arm. This helps you feel drowsy, relaxed and at ease throughout your dental procedure. Your heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels are continuously monitored by our team to keep you safe.
Sedation can be used for any dental treatment, from routine hygiene appointments to complex surgical procedures, helping you stay calm and comfortable from start to finish.

Journey
How Sedation Dentistry Works
We ensure a smooth, safe and carefully managed experience so you feel relaxed throughout your treatment.
Consultation & Preparation
Your dentist will review your medical history and check your oxygen and blood pressure levels to confirm you’re suitable for sedation. Once prepared, the dentist will insert a fine needle connected to a tube delivering either Midazolam or Propofol into your vein. Within minutes, you’ll begin to feel drowsy, calm and relaxed.
Sedation & Treatment
Once the sedative has taken effect, your dentist will begin your procedure. Sedation can be used for any dental treatment, from a scale and polish to complex restorative work. The effects typically last between 2–8 hours, depending on dosage and treatment time.
Recovery & Aftercare
After your treatment, you’ll rest in-practice while the sedation wears off. Your dentist will monitor you until you’re fully recovered. You’ll need someone to drive you home and should avoid exercise or driving for 24 hours after your appointment.
Bonding Material
Your journey begins with an in-depth consultation. We’ll listen to your concerns, discuss your goals.

How long does sedation last?
The calming effects usually last between 1–6 hours, depending on the dosage and procedure length. You’ll be monitored until you’re fully alert before leaving the practice.
