ABOUT ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
Save Your Tooth and Stop the Pain at Smart Dental Care
If dental pain is affecting your daily life, it may be a sign that the nerve inside your tooth is damaged or infected. Ignoring this can lead to severe infection, abscesses, and ultimately tooth loss.
Root canal treatment at Smart Dental Care removes infection from inside the tooth, relieves pain, and allows you to keep your natural tooth rather than having it extracted. Using modern techniques and equipment, our clinicians carefully clean, disinfect, and seal the tooth to restore health and function.
In many cases, a root canal is the only way to save a badly decayed or infected tooth and avoid more complex, costly treatment in the future.

JOURNEY
How Root Canal Treatment Works
We understand that root canal treatment can sound intimidating, so we focus on comfort, clarity, and precision at every stage.
Consultation and Diagnosis
Your dentist will examine your tooth, take X-rays, and confirm whether the nerve is inflamed or infected. They will explain the problem, your treatment options, and what to expect during the procedure.
Root Canal Procedure
Under local anaesthetic, the tooth and surrounding area are fully numbed so you remain comfortable. Your dentist then removes the infected nerve and pulp from inside the tooth, carefully cleans and shapes the root canals, and disinfects the area to eliminate bacteria. The canals are then filled and sealed to prevent re-infection.
Restoration and Protection
Once the root canal is completed, the tooth is restored with a filling or, in many cases, a crown to strengthen and protect it. This allows the tooth to function normally again when biting and chewing.
Bonding Material
Your dentist refines and polishes the surface to achieve a smooth, glossy, natural-looking finish.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
Frequently Asked Questions
At Smart Dental Care, our aim is to make root canal treatment as comfortable, efficient, and effective as possible, so you can get back to normal life without dental pain.
What are the benefits of a root canal treatment?
A root canal removes infected tissue from inside the tooth, relieves pain, and prevents the infection from spreading. It allows you to keep your natural tooth, avoiding extraction and more complex replacement treatments.
Is root canal treatment painful?
No. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic so the tooth and surrounding area are fully numbed. You may feel some pressure, but you should not feel pain during treatment. Mild tenderness afterwards is normal and usually settles within a few days.
Will I need a crown after a root canal?
Often, yes. Teeth that have had root canal treatment can become more fragile. In many cases, your dentist will recommend a dental crown to strengthen and protect the tooth long term.
How long does a root canal take?
Most root canal treatments are completed in one or two appointments, depending on the complexity of the tooth. Your dentist will outline the expected number of visits at your consultation.
What happens if I don’t have a root canal?
Without treatment, the infection can spread, causing severe pain, swelling, abscesses, and eventual tooth loss. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and protect your overall oral health.
